Mondelez International today published its sustainable palm oil action plan, which prioritizes suppliers that meet the company’s sustainability principles and requires suppliers to achieve traceability by the end of 2015. In addition, suppliers must publish sustainable sourcing policies and implementation timelines by the same date.
Mondelez International has unveiled plans to help advance the rights of female cocoa farmers in two of the world’s largest cocoa-growing countries, Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. The action plans respond to new third-party assessments by Harvard University and CARE International, which revealed striking gaps in income and opportunities for female cocoa farmers. In Ghana, female cocoa farmers earn 25-30 percent less than their male counterparts; in Cote d’Ivoire, women in cocoa communities earn up to 70 percent less than men. And in both countries, women struggle with lower farm productivity, smaller farms and less access to financing and farm inputs.

At the Barclays Capital Back to School Consumer Conference today, executives of Mondelez International (NASDAQ: MDLZ) highlighted initiatives to redesign the company’s supply chain that are expected to deliver over the next three years $3 billion in gross productivity savings, $1.5 billion in net productivity and $1 billion in incremental cash. These savings will be the primary driver of an approximately 60-to-90 basis-point annual improvement in base operating income margin.
Kraft Foods (Suzhou) Company Limited, part of the Mondelez International family of companies, hosted a ground-breaking ceremony for the expansion of its biscuit plant in Suzhou, China. The project is expected to be completed in August 2014.
The shareholders of Kraft Foods Inc. voted to change the name of the company to Mondelez International Inc. The proposal was approved by more than 90 percent of the shareholders who cast a vote. The new name will become effective at the time of the planned spin-off of the company´s North American grocery business.
