Bakers association approves of G.M.O. labeling bill
The American Bakers Association on April 10 commended the members of the House of Representatives responsible for introducing the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act, which seeks to establish a federal labeling standard for food and beverage products made with bioengineered ingredients, or genetically modified ingredients (G.M.O.s).

New pick and place robot portfolio
Working alongside robot and mechatronic manufacturers FANUC and Festo, Pacepacker has launched a new pick and place robot portfolio. The range, which currently includes around 20 different options for food manufacturers to choose from, is made up of Cartesian, articulated arm and delta-style robots. This range means that Pacepacker, an automation integrator, can provide a robotic solution to handle a variety of food assembly or packing scenarios.
Canada Bread gets court approval for plan of arrangement
The Ontario Superior Court of Justice has issued a final order approving the previously announced plan of arrangement between a wholly-owned subsidiary of Grupo Bimbo and Canada Bread.
The arrangement will result in the sale of Canada Bread to Grupo Bimbo, which is expected to close in the second quarter of 2014, subject to completion of other closing conditions, including approval under the Investment Canada Act. The transaction has previously received shareholder approval and clearance under the Competition Act (Canada) and the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act (United States).
