Attempted import of cereal bars into China

nestle-ukIt has been reported that a consignment of Fitness Chocolate Hazelnut cereal bars was destroyed late last year by the customs authorities in Shanghai.

The product was made in Poland for the Italian market. It was imported into China without Nestlé’s knowledge. It was not intended for the Chinese market.

The bars contained sorbitol, a widely-used sugar substitute, fully compliant with the regulations applied in Italy.

In China the authorities have not authorised the use of sorbitol in cereals, which is why customs officers in Shanghai blocked the consignment and destroyed the products.

All of our products comply strictly with the regulatory requirements of the markets for which they are intended. The quality and safety of our products are non-negotiable priorities and we would like to reassure consumers that this product is absolutely safe to consume.
