Lotus Bakeries will invest €27m ($37.4m) over three years in its two Belgian plants to meet overseas demand for caramelised biscuits.

The snacks producer is planning to increase the capacity of its Lembeke site and concentrate all of its cake production at its Oostakker facility.

Lotus will expand the production hall at Oostakker by almost 50%, and move its Frangipane production from Lembeke to the site.

The investment will enable the Lembeke site to produce only caramelised biscuits, while Oostakker will produce various cake specialties.

The projects are scheduled to be operational by 2013.
